The City of Cumae is one of the oldest Greek colonies in the West. It was founded in 730 B.C., after the temporary settlement of the Greeks in the island of Ischia.
Here is located the Sybil’s cave, the place where the prophetess Sybil pronounced her oracles. Many Greek and Latin authors wrote down her predictions, so she became the most famous priestess in the Ancient World.
The Acropolis is surrounded by walls built in the V century. Inside there are the temples of Jupiter and Apollo, connected by a still visible road: Via Sacra (the Sacred Street).
